Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgos Katrougalos on visit to Singapore( 29-30 May 2019)
Minister for Foreign Affairs George Katrougalos was on an official visit to Singapore on 29-30 May, where he had key political and economic contacts. On Thursday 30 May, he paid a courtesy call on Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong.
On the same day, George Katrougalos was hosted to breakfast by his counterpart, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. Discussions concerned bilateral relations and expanding cooperation, as well as regional and international developments. Subsequently, the two Ministers for Foreign Affairs attended the official inauguration ceremony of the Embassy of Greece in Singapore, where they signed the Greece-Singapore Avoidance of Double Taxation Agreement.
On the previous day, 29 May, the focus was economic relations, as the Minister for Foreign Affairs met with the Minister of Trade and Industry, Chan Chun Sing, with whom he discussed bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
In addition, the Minister for Foreign Affairs delivered a welcome address at the Greek-Singapore Business Forum, which was co-organised by the Trade Office of the Embassy of Greece in Singapore, the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) and the Singapore Manufacturing Federation, with a goal of expanding business synergies between the two sides and further strengthening the outward-looking nature of Greek entrepreneurship.
Finally, the Minister for Foreign Affairs gave a lecture at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) on “The Future of Europe”.
