Cultural Relations and Greek Community

South Africa was a major reception centre for Greek immigrants especially during the mid-20th century. The largest Greek communities are in Johannesburg, followed by Cape Town, Pretoria and Durban. It is difficult to determine the precise number of Greeks due to constant comings and goings, although the estimated figure is above 45,000. There is an agreement of cultural cooperation between Greece and South Africa whereas our country also provides this country with development assistance.
