Election of Greece as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 term (06.06.2024)
Greece was elected today, Thursday, 6 June, as a non-permanent member of
the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 term with the
support of 182 states.
This marks the third time our country will
hold a seat on the Security Council, following the two-year terms in
1952-1953 and 2005-2006.
Greece is committed to working within
the framework of the "Dialogue-Diplomacy-Democracy" nexus and will
vigorously promote the priorities of its candidacy, namely the peaceful
settlement of disputes, respect for International Law, Women, Peace and
Security, Climate, Peace and Security, Children and Armed Conflict, and
Maritime Security.
Greece's term on the Security Council will
officially begin on 1 January 2025. From October to December 2024,
Greece will hold an observer status at the Council.
We warmly thank all the United Nations member states for honouring us with their vote.
