Peace and Security
INTRODUCTION
The United Nations (UN) was founded in 1945 in the aftermath of World War II. The primary goal of its founders was to prevent a recurrence of the atrocities of war.
The main concern of the Organisation is the maintenance of peace and security, the peaceful settlement of disputes in accordance with the principles of international law, the development of relations of friendship and cooperation among states, and the achievement of international cooperation in meeting global challenges.
Greece cooperates with all members of the UN General Assembly.
On 6.6.2024, Greece was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2025-2026. This election, for the third time in the history of our country (after 1952-1953, 2005-2006), reflects the important positionit holdsamongst the international community.
