Ministerial Meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism on the occasion of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
On 25 September 2020, the Alliance for Multilateralism held a virtual Ministerial Meeting on the occasion of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly with the participation of 67 countries, including Greece, as well as UN and civil society representatives. The meeting focused on the role of multilateralism in the fight against covid-19.
A joint Franco-German initiative, the Alliance aims to renew the global commitment to stabilize the rules-based international order, uphold its principles and adapt it, where necessary, and to this effect it hasundertaken a number of initiatives.
In his remarks, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Mr. Nikos Dendias highlighted the economic, social and health challenges posed by covid-19, especially concerning women rights. Against this background he reiterated Greece’s commitment to realizing the objectives of the Women, Peace and Security agenda, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council Resolution. Furthermore, he recognized the crucial role of multilateralism, international cooperation and global health architecture in mitigating the pandemic’s consequences, and he expressed support for the equitable access to vaccines by all countries. In addition to this, he reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to the Paris Agreement against climate change, including through achieving EU’s ambitious programme in this regard, while at the same time he highlighted the issue of climate change effects to the preservation of cultural
