A new Rule of Law initiative by EPLO successfully launched
On November 20 at the U.N. headquarters building, the Permanent Mission hosted a discussion to launch "The Global Rule of Law Initiative," a new project by the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), which was established in 2007 at the initiative of the Greek government and is based in Athens. In her welcoming remarks, Permanent Representative Maria Theofili spoke of the particular importance Greece has attached to Rule of Law initiatives and described the many activities the EPLO engages in in Greece. Professor Giuliano Amato, a constitutional judge and former Prime Minister of the Italian Republic, delivered the keynote speech, and U.N. Undersecretary General and Legal Counsel Miquel de Serpa Soares contributed his extensive rule of law expertise to the discussion.
The successful event drewa wide and high-level audience, which filled the meeting room at capacity.
