Reception at the margin of the Seventh Conference of State Parties of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
At the margin of the Seventh Conference of State Parties of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations, in collaboration with the International Disability Alliance (International Disability Alliance - IDA) hosted a reception for civil society and NGOs for the rights of persons with disabilities.
The Deputy Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations, Ms. Nancy Eva-Nafsika Vraila, highlighted the important role of the Conference for the global community of people with disabilities and referred to the important work of Mr Vardakastanis, the outgoing president of IDA. Among the attendees of the reception were Ministers, diplomats and many members of the disability movement. Mr Vardakastanis made a brief assessment of his work and handed the leadership of the organization to the Australian Maryanne Diamond, former president of the World Blind Union. The new president of IDA thanked Mr Yianni Vardakastani and committed to make every effort to continue this project.
