The photo exhibition "The Olympic Ideal and the Truce, 776 BC - 2024, 2800 years of history" was inaugurated at the United Nations Headquarters on October 22, 2024.

The exhibition, developed in a series of informative banners, captures the rich history and tradition of the Olympic Games from ancient times to the present. It was organized on the initiative of the Directorate General for Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations. New York is the third stop of the exhibition, which has already been presented at the European headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva and Vienna.

In his opening remarks, the Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations, Ambassador Sekeris, emphasized the timeless message of peace, unity and solidarity conveyed by the values of Olympism and the Olympic Truce, and underscored the identification of the Olympic ideal with the principles, values and mission of the United Nations.

Ambassador Koika, the Director General of Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referred to the initiative of creating the photo exhibition and promoting the ideals of Olympism.

The Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations, Ambassador Nicolas de Rivière, and the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, Ambassador Christopher Lu, representing the organizing countries of the previous (Paris 2024) and the next (Los Angeles 2028) Olympic Games, praised the universality and timelessness of the values of Olympism and the Olympic Truce, as well as the contribution of Greece to world sport and the ideals of Olympism.

The exhibition, which is on display in a central room at UN Headquarters until November 1, was attended by numerous representatives of the diplomatic community of Member States and senior UN officials.
