Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Bolaris’ statement on the double bomb attack at the Cathedral in the city of Jolo, the Philippines

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Markos Bolaris expresses his abhorrence and his sincere condolences to the Government of the Philippines, to the Holy See, as well as to the families of the victims of the deadly bomb attack of the Catholic church and its surrounding area during Mass on Sunday, 27 January, in the city of Jolo, the Philippines.

The unequivocal condemnation of acts of violence motivated by religious fanaticism against innocent citizens carrying out their religious obligations, as well taking advantage of faith in order to cultivate intolerance among the proponents of different religions, is self-evident. A call for a return to human values and respect of man's freedom is necessary.
