President Higgins has written to President Sakellaropoulou of Greece, to convey his greetings to the people of Greece on the occasion of their National Day.

Scríobh an tUachtarán Ó hUigínn chuig Uachtarán Sakellaropoulou na Gréige lena bheannachtaí do mhuintir na Gréige a chur in iúl ar ócáid a Lae Náisiúnta.

Greek Independence Day 2021 marks the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the Greek revolution against the Ottoman Empire, which ultimately led to the establishment of an independent kingdom of Greece.

In recent years, President Higgins has highlighted the many cultural, historical and economic bonds between Greece and Ireland, among others through his visits in 2018 and 2019, and by inviting President Pavlopoulos to make a State Visit to Ireland in 2020.
