Alternate Foreign Minister G. Katrougalos and the Secretary General for Int'l Economic Relations, G. Tsipras, hold meetings in Moscow (26 June 2017)/Signing of Joint Statement with the Eurasian Economic Commission

Alternate Foreign Minister G. Katrougalos met in Moscow today with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksey Yurievich Meshkov. During the meeting, they discussed issues concerning bilateral and EU-Russian economic relations.

Alternate Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos and the Secretary General for International Economic Relations, Giorgos Tsipras, had a constructive meeting with Tatiana Valovaya, the Minister in charge of the Development of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission. Following the meeting, they signed a Joint Cooperation Statement aimed at expressing the common will of the participating countries to promote their cooperation and initiate a productive dialogue.

Immediately after the signing, Mr. Katrougalos stated that "globalization is an era of regional integrations and cooperation that are playing a substantial role in global developments. Greece has always been a bridge between regions, geographically and historically. We welcome and look forward to cooperation among countries and regions," Mr. Katrougalos added,"as well as cooperation on the international level, in the conviction that it will foster mutual understanding and overall growth."

The initiation of Greece's cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Commission – always within the framework of Greece's obligations as a member of the European Union – will give us the opportunity to strengthen our cooperation with countries to which we are linked by deep historical and cultural ties. To date, we had closer economic cooperation with Russia, but we look forward to the prospect of enhancing and deepening our economic relations with Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus, and we believe that the Joint Statement is a clear manifestation of the will for mutually beneficial cooperation.
