Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ statement before his meeting with US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken (Washington D.C., 17.05.2022)

Tuesday, 17 May 2022

I attended a spectacular meeting with President Biden yesterday and, if you’ll allow me to say, a historic speech by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to Congress today.

I am looking forward to discussing Ukraine, following the Russian invasion. It is good to compare notes, and see what we are going to do.

Also, I will brief you on the situation in the Southeastern Mediterranean and see how the United States could be more present in the region. The 3+1, for example, is something that is of huge importance to us and I would like to discuss how we are going to enhance it.

And also, discuss challenges to the rules-based international order. I would say that it is important for us that the United States understand that no room should be allowed for revisionist powers to try to change this rules-based international order.

Thank you so much for the opportunity and, if you’ll allow me to say, it is great to see you well  after COVID.
