Καλωσορίζοντας τον ομιλητή και το πολυπληθές διεθνές κοινό, ο πρέσβης, Κωνσταντίνος Κούτρας, Γενικός Πρόξενος της Ελλάδας στην Κωνσταντινούπολη ανέφερε μεταξύ άλλων: «I am very pleased to welcome you all, at Sismanoglio Megaro, the house of Greece in Istanbul, on the occasion of the lecture of professor Kolonas who has been invited by the Consulate General to take a lecture about the Greek Architects in Constantinople during the 19th and 20th centuries. His lecture will bring us back to Constantinople where, as you may know, the greek minority of the time thrived and flourised in terms of sociale, professional, diplomatic and economic life manifesting an entrepreneurial spirit and as a result made their prominent presence visible in every aspect. Let’s not forget that at the turn of the twentieth century the presence of a non-Muslim population was predominant in Constantinople. That is the period when the city was adorned by magnificent constructions, both private and public, that reflected not only the economic power of the time but also the eclecticism and the highly educated level of a multiethnic society that populated it. In fact, the eye of a walker in the modern Istanbul is often caught by the magnificent buildings of school, churches, and private houses. However a careful observer will notice inscriptions in Greek language, that testify their history and especially the date of their construction. Irrefutable witness of what I have just mentioned is the inscription on one of the most beautiful buildings of Constantinople in the district of Galata that Architect Ladopoulos signed in 1905, or in the Valata district where «Vasilios K. Papadopoulos Architect» signs in 1912 another construction. In addition how could I not mention the inscription at the magnificent «Μεγάλη του Γένους Σχολή» the well known, especially among the Turks «red school», by «Αρχιτέκτων Δημάδης, 1881».
