Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonis Diamataris meets with the board of the Tenedos Association
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Diaspora Greeks, Antonis Diamataris, met with the president and secretary general of the Tenedos Association, Christos Kalfas and Panagiotis Okoumasis, respectively.
Mr. Kalfas initially reviewed the history of Tenedos (Bozcaada) since 1923, and then set out for the Deputy Minister the key issues being faced by the Christian population of the island – the most important being that of maintaining the Greek community on the island. The president of the Tenedos Association asked the Deputy Minister for the assistance of the state in supporting the return of Greeks to the island. He also underscored the need for a ferry link between Tenedos and Imvros (Gökçeada) and the nearby Greek islands, such as Mytilini and Limnos, to facilitate access to the island for Greeks who want to visit.
Mr. Diamataris characterized support for the Greeks of Tenedos as a “sacred duty” and promised to visit the island soon.
