Online declaration of loss of Greek passport or ID card Greek citizens are now able to declare online the loss of their Greek ID card or passport, provided that the citizen holds a TaxisNet or web banking account. Alternatively, they candeclare the loss at their closest Greek Consular Authority. Attention: In accordance with the Community Code on Visas short term visitors to Greece (and to the Schengen area in general) must be in possession of a valid travel document. The Travel document’s validity shall extend at least three months after the intended date of departure from Greece (or the Schengen area in general), and it shall have been issued within the previous 10 years Attention: ETA authorisation will be needed for entry of Greek citizens in the UK from 2 April 2025

Trade and investment between Greece and the UK

Total Greek exports to the UK amounted to 2.142 billion euros in 2022, while imports stood at 854.2 million. The UK was Greece’s 7th largest export destination, accounting for 3.9% of total Greek exports, and the 21st largest import market, accounting for 0.9% of total Greek imports.
The main goods exported from Greece to the UK in 2022 were mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, food (mainly dairy products), manufactured goods classified chiefly by material, and chemicals (mainly pharmaceuticals). Imports from the UK included various machines and devices, cars and alcoholic beverages.



In 2021 Greece reported a trade in services surplus of 1.395 billion euros with the UK. In the three quarters to the end of Q3 2022, 3.8 million Britons visited Greece.
In 2021 the inward stock of foreign direct investment in Greece from the UK was 1.447 billion euros.

Greek Golden Visa program

Non-EU citizens and their family members have several options to obtain a Greek Residence Permit. A residence permit is an official document giving individuals the right to reside legally in Greece. Residence permits are renewed every five years. The holders can travel freely in the Schengen area for up to 3 months within a 6-month period and can purchase a car with Greek license plates. They have equal right to public education as Greek nationals. Employment rights depend on the type of permit issued.

Incentives for foreign taxpayers

The Greek Ministry of Finance has introduced the following favourable tax regimes for individuals who transfer their tax residence in Greece:

Under the Greek non-domiciled tax regime, individuals pay a lump sum tax of € 100,000 on an annual basis regardless of the income earned abroad. The special tax regime can be used for 15 years.

Foreign Pensioners who transfer their tax residence in Greece pay annually a 7% income tax for their total income obtained abroad. The special tax regime can be used for 15 years.

Natural persons who transfer their tax residence to Greece and will be employed in new jobs or start a business as a self-employed person are entitled to an income tax break and exemption from the special solidarity levy, of 50% of the income they acquire in Greece for 7 years.
