Registration (Birth, Marriage, Divorce, Death)

General Information

From January 1, 2022, the registry entries at the Consular Office of the London Embassy, and already at the General Consulate in Manchester are made electronically on the "Register of Citizens" and sent directly to the Municipality where  the Greek citizen is regitered.

For the registration of births, deaths and marriages that took place in the UK regions of North East England, North West England, Yorkshire, East Midlands, West Midlands, Scotland and Northern Ireland the citizens should contact Consulate General in Manchester at grgencon.mch@mfa.gr. For registration of events that took place in other regions in the United Kingdom, the citizens should contact the Consular Office of London.

The Honorary Consulates, despite not having access to the Citizens’ Registry, accept citizens' applications to the Special Civil Registry Section in Greece for a declaration of a registry event, specifically declarations of birth of children in wedlock, declarations of marriage, or declarations of death, which occurred within their area of their competence, and they forward them to the Special Civil Registry Section along with the necessary supporting documents, which include legalisation of the British certificates with an Apostille stamp and translation. Then, the Special Civil Registry Section proceeds with the registration of the registry events, in order for the procedure to be completed by the competent Municipality.  It is noted that, in the event that the names of the interested parties are written differently on the British certificate (of birth, marriage, or death) then they are in the civil registers, the interested parties should contact the competent authority (either Consular Office in London or General Consulare in Manchester) for their registration.

In addition to events that occurred within the jurisdiction of the Honorary Consulates, the Special Civil Registry Section remains responsible for the declaration of events that occurred in an area that is more than 500 kilometers away from the London Consular Office or from the Manchester General Consulate.
