Bites of Greece - Trade events
Greek food and drinks exporters seek new ways to reach UK buyers
A group of more than 60 Greek food and drinks producers from across Greece have announced plans for a series of trade and consumer events in London starting in June. The “Bites of Greece” initiative is aiming to reconnect UK food and drinks professionals with Greek, organic, artisanal, and natural food and drinks companies. Combining the authenticity of the Greek tradition, the healthy Mediterranean diet, and the innovative approach of a new generation of producers, the Greek Food & Drink sector has so much to share and offer, through its unique taste blends and gastronomic delights.
Impact of pandemic
Many of the producers involved in the upcoming events rely heavily on international markets, have been unable to showcase their products to the UK trade for more than a year, following the postponement and cancellation of the regular calendar of UK trade fairs and exhibitions.
Starting 1st June, the products will feature on a front of store display for 4 weeks at London supermarket, Partridges of Sloane Square, in Chelsea, before the launch of an exclusive pop-up concept store in Islington, North London for a month from the 16th June. The pop-up store will be open to both the public and trade to try and buy products and will hold a series of exclusive private tastings and events for the trade. Finally, producers are hosting a market stall at the Truman Market’s food producer’s area, The Upmarket, in East London for 4 weekends starting on the 3rd of July. Product categories include olives and olive oils, honeys, wine and beer, confectionary, spreads and preserves and herbs, teas and coffee.
Opportunity
Said Antonis Sioulis, of RECO Exports, co-organizer of the event: “We have all seen the impact of the pandemic on our industry and even now, most food and drinks exporters from Greece and across Europe are unable to travel easily to the UK. We wanted to place their products in front of the UK food and drinks trade in a live retail environment where flavour, concepts, branding and pricing can all be tested in real time with British consumers, and crucially members of the trade can come and sample and learn about new products for their ranges in a relaxed and informal setting, in their own time.”
Bites of Greece is organized by RECO Exports & Murphy London Communications, with the support of Enterprise Greece, the Embassy of Greece in the United Kingdom and the British Hellenic Chambers of Commerce and the cooperation of Region of Attica, Region of Central Macedonia, Region of Central Greece, Region of Epirus and Region of Ionian Islands.
