Culture Minister congratulates Venice Film Festival Silver Lion winners
Culture & Sports Minister Panos Panagiotopoulos on Sunday congratulated film director Alexandros Avranas and actor Themis Panou for the important distinctions they won in the 70th Venice International Film Festival.
“Hearing your names being announced by Bernardo Bertolucci himself in the festival's award ceremony made us all proud,” Panagiotopoulos said.
“Avranas is one of the many talented fellow Greeks who renew the great tradition of the Greek cinema and who excel with new creativity, boldness and entrepreneurship, incarnating a new Greek Hope,” the minister said.
Alexandros Avranas won the Silver Lion for best director for his film “Miss Violence” and Themis Panou won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor in the same movie.
A day before winning the Silver Lion, Avranas had won the federation of film critics Fedeora award for Best Euro-Mediterranean Film and the Arca Cinema Giovanni young cinema award.
