Special geophysical surveys which are scheduled to be started in the coming days in the Ionian sea and south of the Island of Crete to determine the existence of oil and/or natural gas reserves, could prove highly beneficial to the country’s future, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Evangelos Livieratos, told a two-day conference in Patra, on Friday.
Addressing the “Exploration and Exploitation of Hydrocarbons in Western Greece – From Myth to Reality” meeting, Livieratos said that seismic surveys in the above fields would provide solid scientific evidence as to the existence and quantities of hydrocarbon reserves in Greece. amna
The minister also said that an evaluation process is currently underway for eight bids submitted by 11 companies with regard to hydrocarbon extraction in the Gulf of Patra, Katakolo and Ioannina fields.
