Foreign Ministry announcement regarding the incident involving shots fired at the German ambassadorial residence
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos communicated by phone early this morning with the German Ambassador to Greece, Wolfgang Dold, expressing utter condemnation of the attack in which shots were fired on the ambassadorial residence in Halandri, as well as sentiments of friendship and support for the Ambassador and his family.
At this time, on the instructions of Mr. Venizelos, Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas is at the German Ambassador’s residence.
As Mr. Venizelos told Mr. Dold, the Greek government expresses its abhorrence and utter condemnation of today’s cowardly act of terrorism, the sole and obvious target of which was Greece’s image abroad just a few days before the start of the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the EU. The immediate mobilization of the Hellenic Police, who are combating terrorism in a coordinated and effective manner, will promptly bring the perpetrators to justice.
