Lower VAT rate for restaurants, catering from the 1st of August

The lower 13 pct VAT rate for all restaurant and catering services came into force on Thursday, August 1 until the end of the year when the impact of the temporary measure will be reassessed.

According to the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants (GSEVEE) it has already received 7,000 applications for the special sign that businesses can display to indicate that they have lowered their prices in line with the tax reduction.

The signs will be issued after careful examination of a number of criteria, including past prices and the number of menu items reduced.

Consumer groups also advised prospective customers to be on the lookout for a number of factors, including that prices are those advertised, portion sizes, good services and to always demand a receipt.
