PM Samaras in Brussels Thursday for EU, EPP Summits
Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras arrives in Brussels on Thursday to attend an EU Summit and a summit of the European People's Party (EPP) grouping of the Europarliament.
EU heads of state and government will on Thursday evening open a two-day Summit in a bid to balance the continuation of the austerity policies designed to cut debts with measures to boost growth and generate jobs.
Earlier, ahead of the European Council, EU and non-EU heads of state and government and opposition leaders of the EPP will be joined by European Council president Herman van Rompuy and European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso for and enlarged EPP summit.
The EU summit will be followed on Friday afternoon by an extraordinary meeting of the Eurogroup, which will discuss "progress towards a financial assistance and economic adjustment programme for Cyprus", according to a statement by the new Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijsselbloem
Samaras is due to return to Athens on Friday night.
