PM Samaras in Vienna: Greece 'making progress every day'
Greece has walked a long road, making progress every day, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said in Vienna on Thursday as he prepared to attend the European People's Party (EPP) summit meeting.
Greece is going through a tough time which requires fiscal stability, reform, and strong and extensive social and political consensus.
The EPP summit meeting will be hosted by EPP President Wilfried Martens and Austrian Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger, who is also chairman of the Austrian People's Party (OVP).
EU and non-EU heads of state and government and opposition leaders of EPP, along with the presidents of the European Council and the European Commission – Herman Van Rompuy and Jose Manuel Barroso – are participating. On the agenda is the preparation of the European Council, scheduled for June 27 and 28.
On his return from Vienna the same day, Samaras will meet with coalition his coalition partners on matters relating to the government's operation and the state broadcaster ERT issue. The meeting with PASOK's Evangelos Venizelos and Democratic Left (DIM.AR) Fotis Kouvelis is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
