The Greek Shipping Hall of Fame London Event

Thursday, 03 April 2014

The first ever event of the Greek Shipping Hall of Fame was held in London on Monday 24 March 2014. The event was a celebration of Greek shipping and its long lasting alliances with the London maritime community. It presented also an opportunity to include 2 new inductees to the Hall of Fame, namely Pericles G. Callimanopulos (1892-1979) and Alexander G. Tsavliris (1914-1973). The London event was supported by the Greek Shipping Cooperation Committee. Present at the event were, amongst others, the Greek Ambassador Mr. Konstantinos Bikas, the First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff (1SL/CNS) Admiral Sir George Zambellas, the former Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Mr. Efthimios Mitropoulos and the President of the Greek Shipping Cooperation Committee Mr. Haralambos J. Fafalios.

A portion of the proceeds from the London event was donated to Hellenic Hope, a UK-registered charity helping children at risk from the economic crisis in Greece.
The London event followed the public inauguration ceremony of the Greek Shipping Hall of Fame in April 2013 at the Athens Concert Hall, which was attended by 500 top shipping people.

The Greek Shipping Hall of Fame is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to the dynamic Greek shipping industry and individuals who have helped to shape it. It began life in 2007 as an idea and today it includes 20 personalities who have made their mark on Greek and world shipping.
