10/11/2016: Symposium on the music and life of Vasilis Tsitsanis

The Consulate General of Greece in Boston is hosting a symposium on the music and life of Vasilis Tsitsanis, the legendary Greek songwriter and bouzouki player, organized by the Greek Music Ensemble and sponsored by the Tsitsanis Museum and the Municipality of Trikala.

Vasilis Tsitsanis, became one of the leading Greek composers of his time and is widely regarded as one of the founders of post-World-War II "Rebetiko" and "Laiko" genres of Greek music. Among many contributions to Greek music, Tsitsanis succeeded in creating new poetic and musical forms in his songs, reflecting the new social and political reality of Greece after the Second World War.

Speakers will include Spyros Antonopoulos, Grammenos Karanos and Panos Liaropoulos. Original video and audio footage will also be presented for the first time in the US.
