Announcement on repatriation of Greek citizens and extension of residence in the US for ESTA holders
The Consulate General of Greece in Boston is encouraging Greeks wishing to return to Greece to do so as soon as possible through existing commercial flights. Difficulties in moving from the US to Europe are increasing rapidly and constantly.
If you are unable to provide proof of your Greek citizenship, please email
to issue a certificate in English.
Please report your Greek name/surname/father’s name/ mother’s name/ year of birth and send an electronic copy of the page with your US passport information.
Greek citizens residing in the United States under the Visa Waiver Scheme (ESTA), who are currently prevented by the current situation (Pandemic - flight cancellations) from leaving the United States within the time limit set upon entry, may submit a personal application to the US authorities - the status is called "satisfactory departure".
Caution:
- This extension may not exceed a period of 30 days. If the final departure trip is made during this additional period of stay, the alien is deemed to have successfully completed his visit to the USA without exceeding the appointed time.
- The application regarding the extension of stay (i539) must be submitted before the expiration date of the permitted stay in the United States. Otherwise, it will be considered that the visitor has exceeded his ESTA status.
