Call for Applications

The General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad is accepting applications for its first Philoxenia Program Trip to Greece aimed to further enhance the bonds between twenty (20) U.S. and Canadian students of Greek descent and their country of origin. The trip will take place July 24 – through August 2, 2017.

The 10-day program includes meetings in the capital Athens with Government officials focused on Greek-American relations, Greek economy and specific issues of Greek national interest. Also included are visits to major archaeological sites and museums, attendance to lectures, participation in cultural events and 2 daily excursions, one in the Peloponnese region (archaeological site of Mycenae, Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, city of Nafplion) and a cruise to Saronic Gulf islands (Hydra, Poros, Aegina).

During their stay, the students will also have the opportunity to visit the Presidential Mansion and the Hellenic Parliament.

Eligibility:

The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students of Greek descent (at least one of the parents should be Greek), age 18-25 and residing permanently to either U.S.A or Canada. A basic knowledge of Greek language is required. Participation is contingent upon acceptance by the program review committee.

Cost and Accommodations:

Hotel accommodation as well as other expenses such as meals, excursions, visits and cultural events will be covered by the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad. All expenses till the arrival at the Hotel and after the end of the Program are at the participants’ cost, including airline tickets.

Application Process:

All applicants should fill in and submit the Application form no later than June 19th, 2017 (found on Embassy of Greece in Washington D.C. website www.mfa.gr/usa/en/). Please e-mail the completed Philoxenia Program application attached with a copy of your Passport/ID at [ ]. The results will be announced within a week after the afore-mentioned deadline.
