Chicago’s National Hellenic Museum
Chicago’s Greek town got a major addition when the National Hellenic Museum opened its doors to the public on December 10, 2011. The four-story, 40,000-square-foot museum includes exhibits on ancient Greece, displays on the city’s Greek community and a library and resource center. The Museum offers an interactive exhibition called Gods, Myths & Mortals: Discovering Ancient Greece.
As the newest thing in ancient history, the new National Hellenic Museum will allow visitors of all ages to experience the journey of Hellenic history and culture from ancient times to today through the words of storytellers past and present.
They can learn about the world of classical Greece and experience the art and religion of the Byzantine Empire. In addition, visitors may find out more about immigration from a Greek perspective, by listening to the stories of families who traveled from Greece to the United States throughout the last century.
