Art Exhibition “Yiayia, Tell me Your Story”

The art exhibition “Yiayia, Tell Me Your Story,” Traces on Fabric, was inaugurated on Tuesday, February 9th 2016 at the Consulate General of Greece in the presence of numerous guests, including, academics, business people, journalists, and artists. The paintings of the Greek artist Calliope Iconomacou offer an artistic view on the story of Greek women’s immigration. Iconomacou has chosen the scarf (mantili) as the canvas on which she depicts her latest artwork. The scarf, in the Greek tradition, since ancient times, is not just an accessory, but accompanies the most important moments in the lives of Greeks, the wedding, the birth, dancing, hospitality and even death.

The women portrayed as princesses in their own world, come from different parts of Greece.

The exhibition will remain open to the public, Monday through Friday, except official holidays, 09:00 - 14:30, until March 4th, 2016. Admission is free.
