Greek Independence Day Celebration
On the occasion of the Greek Independence Day, the Consulate General of Greece in New York held its annual open house reception at the Consulate’s building (69 East 79th Street), on Monday March 25, between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. The reception was sponsored by the Hellenic American Chamber of Commerce (H.A.C.C.)
Following the reception, at 7:30 p.m., a discussion took place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Ballroom (337 East 74th Street), moderated by Louis Katsos, President, Jekmar Associates and Professor Adjunct, The Irwin S. Chaning School of Architecture, Cooper Union.
Presentations were made by Dr. Christos P. Ioannides, Director, The Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, Queens College, CUNY, on “Regas Feraios-The Apostle of Revolution”, Dr. Constantine G. Hadzidimitriou, Saint John’s University & CUNY, on “The Impact in the United States of The Greek War of Independence, 1821-1829” and Mr. Robert G. Shaw, Past President-Chairman, H.A.C.C. on “The Battle of Navarino: A Precedent for International Peacekeeping”.
