Integration of the Ionian Islands with Greece

On Sunday, May 18th 2014, at the Cultural Center in Astoria, Queens, the 150th anniversary of the union of the Ionian Islands with Greece was celebrated. The event, with keynote speaker the Consul General of Greece, Mr. G. Iliopoulos, was organized by the Ionian Cultural Federation of America in cooperation with other Ionian associations. The speech was followed by a music program with recitation of poetry of Odysseas Elitis, Dionisios Solomos and other poets. The artists closed the evening by singing the "Hymn of Union".
