Opening of the photographic exhibition: “Daily Bread-Photographs from Rural Greece,” by Beatrice Hamblett

Wednesday, 08 November 2017

Τhe opening of the photographic exhibition: “Daily Bread-Photographs from Rural Greece,” by Beatrice Hamblett, took place yesterday, Tuesday, November 7th, 2017, at the premises of the Consulate General of Greece in New York.

“Daily Bread” is the culmination of many road trips photographing in rural Greece. In her photographs, Hamblett reaches for the moments that distill the essence of character and occasion—moments that celebrate the ancient traditions, the love of family, the courage and dignity of a people as they embrace the 21st century. Her photographs immerse viewers in the everyday lives of people living simple lives in small villages across Greece.

Many of Hamblett’s photographs depict scenes of the region of Epirus, thus the highlight of the night was the performance of epirotan dances by Ladies from the Academy of Hellenic Paideia, accompanied by live Greek folk music.

Beatrice Hamblett lives and works in Washington, DC and Skopelos, Greece. In the last 15 years, she has exhibited her photographs extensively both nationally and internationally. In 2009, she was the recipient of a grant from the Washington DC Commission of the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH) that helped make possible many of the photographs of Daily Bread. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University, New York, NY.

The opening was attended by representatives from the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, university professors, businessmen, members of the Greek-American Community and journalists.

The catering, among them the famous epirotan pies, was kindly offered by Epirotans of New York.

The exhibition will run until November 20th, Monday to Friday, 09:00 a.m. - 14:30 p.m.
