Presentation of the program of the non profit organization ArcAthens- Artist Residency Center in Athens
An event to present the program of the non profit organization ArcAthens- Artist Residency Center in Athens, took place on Tuesday, February 27th, at the Consulate General of Greece in New York.
ArcAthens is a non profit institution, founded in New York, and has as its goal a residency program that will host artists and curators from around the world to live and create in Athens.
The selected residents will have the opportunity to come to Greece for three months and create inspired by today's Athens. ArcAthens will provide them with housing, food and transportation from and to their home countries so that the residents can fully experience the Greek hospitality.
Mr Aristides Logothetis, founder and executive director of ArcAthens, being a greek-american artist himself and living between New York and Athens, experienced the existing gap at the field of complete art residencies in Athens. A town, as he stressed, that despite the financial crisis, is described by the international press as the "New Berlin" and with reason, because as we have all realized these past years, there is a strong artistic movement in Athens that places her at the international map of visual and performing arts. It is ArcAthens's target to make Athens the "New Athens".
The Consulate General of Greece in New York, Mr Konstantinos Koutras welcomed the audience, congratulated the founding committee for their original idea and stressed the comparative advantage of Greece in the fields of art and civilization.
The key-note speaker, Mr. D. Cameron, secretary of ArcAthens, famous curator having organised three Biennale, spoke about the magic that Greece exercises to the artists and noted the financial and not only benefits from these activities.
The event was attended by representatives of great Cultural Foundations, museums' directors, artists, entrepreneurs and journalists.
