Press conference of the cast of the theater performance "The Lady of Ro"
On October 18, a press conference of the cast of the theater performance "The Lady of Ro" took place at the residence of the Consul General of New York.
The performance, which will be staged next Sunday at the Queens Theatre,is a monologue performed by Fotini Βaxevani based on the book "The Lady of Ro" of Gianni Skaragas and directed by Stavros Litinas. The performance is under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy and was co-organized by the Greek Cultural Center of New York, as well as by the Amorgian and Dodecanese Greek-American associations of New York.
The Consul General of Greece in New York, Mr. Dinos Konstantinou, who introduced the participants of the performance to the journalists, stressed that, especially for the expatriate Greek community, culture is a vehicle which strengthensthe ties of Greeks abroad with the motherland Greece. Also, he underlined that he considers culture as a very important issue for the preservation of ties - especially of the younger generations - with Greece as an antidote to the risk of assimilation, which is very high especially in the USA.
He also stressed that it is extremely important to present theatrical works such as "The Lady of Ro" about an emblematic figure of Greece, a moving and nationally significant story for which he is sure that it will have a great impact on the Greek-American and also on the wider American philhellenes.
The actors of the theatrical performance explained that itis not just a simple narrative about the history or the biography of the "Lady of Ro", but it consists a starting point, and a mean for inspiration as well as a recording of the overall Greek experience, a psychological journey with a strong emotional charge.A theatrical performance that touches all ages and genders and relates more broadly to the multi-layered human experience and faith in humanity.
