A Salon with author Amanda Michalopoulou. Jointly hosted by the Consulates General of Germany and Greece in New York

Monday, 06 May 2019

The Consul General of Germany in New York, David Gill, along with the Consul General of Greece in New York, Konstantinos Koutras had the pleasure of hosting a Salon with the Greek novelist Amanda Michalopoulou. The event took place on May 2, at the Residence of the German Consul.

The two Consuls gave a warm welcome to their guests, while David Gill explained that Amanda has been a close friend to his family who are all avid readers of her work, from the time the author lived in Berlin, Germany.

Τhe evening was mostly dedicated to the author’s latest book “Baroque” (published in 2018), featuring a woman recounting her life’s story backwards. Michalopoulou read excerpts from her book in English, as well as excerpts from her book “The Wife of God,” which was published in 2014.

Before that, Michalopoulou’s work was introduced to the public by Lissi Athanasiou-Krikelis, Assistant Professor of Literature at the New York Institute of Technology. She explained the way the novelist delves into the genre of autofiction, a type that blends fiction and what may appear to be fact into an unstable compound.

The evening closed with an open discussion between the writer and her New York fans attending the Salon.
