The Consulate General of Greece in New York hosts event on women’s health awareness
The Consulate General of Greece in York inaugurated 2020 with an important message for women. Together with the Manhattan Chapter #36 of the Daughters of Penelope of the AHEPA family, the Consulate General invited three female experts in the care of gynecologic cancers to inform the public about the importance of prevention and the risks to be avoided by these insidious diseases. The presentation took place within the Consulate General of Greece in New York on January 15th.
The special presentation was delivered by Dr. Lorraine Chrisomalis, Dr. Stella Lymberis and Dr. Katherine Economos on cervical, endometrial and ovarian cancer respectively. All three physicians stressed that these diseases concern us all and stated specific data pointing to the frequency of the cancers. In addition to that, it was made clear that although many of the diseases are asymptomatic our body sends us some signals which first need to be identified by the women themselves before they address their physicians for evaluation and probable treatment. Another important matter emphasized was that prevention saves lives through screening tests and vaccination. In some cases, the diseases can even be eliminated, as long as the population follows basic medical instructions.
