“The Fabric of Space” An art exhibition by Eozen Agopian at the Consulate General of Greece in New York
Not even this winter’s first heavy snowfall did not put the guests off for the opening of the art exhibition “The Fabric of space” held by the Consulate General of Greece in New York, inside its exhibition Hall (November 15-30).
In Einstein's theory of relativity, space and time is a single entity called “spacetime,” a term referring to a smooth fabric which is distorted by the presence of energy. Taking a more artistic approach on the matter, the artist Eozen Agopian addresses the issue of space with fabrics, threads and paint in a way that reveals the underlying structure and the way it transforms through interaction, much as a fabric does when curved by the use. As the exhibition’s curator Dr. Thalia Vrachopoulou explains: “Since 1993 when Eozen Agopian received her MFA at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, she has been working with fabrics and threads in layers. At this point in her career, she uses these media as a way to emphasize their multiple dimensions”.
Visual artist Eozen Agopian is of Armenian descent, born in Athens, Greece. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Bachelor of Fine Arts, from Hunter College, N.Y. She has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group shows in public and private venues in Greece, France, Russia, Italy, Germany, China and the United States, such as, Fox Gallery NYC, Eleftheria Tseliou Gallery (Athens), Michael Walls Gallery (New York), Lesley Heller Workspace (New York) , Shiva Gallery of the John Jay College (New York), Hellenic American Union (Athens), AAW Gallery, (Beijing), State Museum of Contemporary Art, (Thessalonica), Greece, Museum of Contemporary Art Crete (Greece). She has been an invited resident artist at the Triangle Arts in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
She currently divides her time between living and working in New York and Athens.
