Speech by Consul Papanikolaou at the annual dinner of the program Athens-Houston Marathon Exchange program

Under the auspices of the Greek Consulate in Houston, the annual dinner program Athens-Houston Marathon Exchange program took place on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the premises of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. The exchange program, which was inspired by Melina Mercouri, then Minister of Culture, during her visit to the city 26 years ago, is unique in the U.S. Through proceeds from a dinner event, the Greek diaspora offers an opportunity for 2 Greek athletes, chosen by SEGAS, to participate in the annual Houston marathon, while similarly, two lucky runners from Texas, have the opportunity to run the  classical Athens marathon route and to experience Greek hospitality.
