Cultural Relations
In November 2011, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Greece and the USA was put into effect for the protection of Greek cultural goods from illicit importation to the USA.
The agreement, which was signed by the Foreign Minister of Greece and the US Secretary of State at the Acropolis Museum, in July 2011, ensures the protection of Greek cultural heritage, dating from 20,000 BC to the 15th century AD. The US authorities, will now protect invaluable Greek treasures, thus preventing any kind of illegal trafficking. Moreover, the agreement encourages the lending of exhibits from Greek museums and cultural exchanges on the educational and scientific level. Already, two very important exhibitions are planned for the biennium 2013-2014 in prominent museums, such as the National Gallery of Art, the National Geographic Museum, the Getty Museum and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
