Thursday, 26 February 2015

Alternate Foreign Minister Euclid Tsakalotos met at the Foreign Ministry yesterday with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Amanda Sloat.

Ms. Sloat requested a briefing on economic developments, the course of the negotiations, the reform programme the Greek government intends to implement, the manner in which a possible funding gap in 2015 will be covered, and the new government’s intentions in the privatization sector.

Mr. Tsakalotos presented the Greek government’s positions, characterizing the U.S. administration’s stance on the Greek effort as positive so far. Ms. Sloat noted that the U.S. government will offer even more assistance to Greece in order for the Institutions to exhibit greater flexibility.

Finally, there was a discussion of the issue of attracting foreign direct investment in Greece, and Ms. Sloat proposed that Mr. Tsakalotos meet with representatives of American enterprises, as well as with the Greek-American Chamber, in order to set out the Greek government’s positions in the sector of foreign direct investments, with particular emphasis on privatizations.
