Ambassador Panagopoulos participated in the “OXI DAY Greatest Generation Awards”, along with His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America and members of the Greek-American community (Washington DC, 10/24/2012).

The event, organized by the “OXI DAY FOUNDATION”, took place at the National World War II Memorial and paid tribute to the Greek-American WWII Veterans.

Ambassador Panagopoulos underlined the invaluable service, the unparalleled courage and the incredible sacrifices of the Greek People who gave its all for freedom and democracy, in the epic battle against the Axis forces in WWII.

“Greece’s role in the Allies’ victory has been well documented and recognized by all and it should never be forgotten. On October 28th, 1940, Greeks wrote another very important chapter of their contemporary history”.

Ambassador Panagopoulos laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery in honor of the Heroes of WWII.
