Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonis Diamataris meets with U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt (Athens, 20 August 2019)
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonis Diamataris today met with the U.S. Ambassador, Geoffrey Pyatt. Reaffirming the excellent level of Greek-American relations, Mr. Pyatt referred to, among other things, the recent meeting in Washington between U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, the Greek-U.S Strategic Dialogue, and the very positive climate that has been created for Greece in Washington. The U.S. Ambassador underscored that the new government presents a new opportunity from which both countries can benefit.
The Deputy Minister praised the unanimous decision of the Holy Synod and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to appoint Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, who is in a position, in collaboration with the state, to develop major initiatives for enhancing bilateral relations. Finally, Mr. Diamataris requested the collaboration of the American side on handling the issue of medical coverage for Greek Americans vacationing in Greece. The U.S. Ambassador promised to look into the matter.
Also present at the meeting were the Secretary General for Diaspora Greeks, Ioannis Chrysoulakis, and officials from the Foreign Ministry and the U.S. Embassy.
