Fall colors with Greek culture!
Dear Friends of Greek Culture,
The Embassy of Greece wishes everyone a wonderful fall season. As the leaves change colors, we have many cultural events planned to stimulate and excite.
Our fall cultural program includes many exciting opportunities. Greece’s participation in the Kids Euro Festival features a play for children that is free to the public. The AFI theatre’s European Union Showcase is featuring two Greek films, and a Greek-Cypriot collaboration. The AVALON theatre, in their ongoing Panorama of
Greek Cinema, is hosting a new interesting film from Greece. Finally, the Embassy of Greece is hosting an exhibition, movies and lectures on Dr. George Papanicolaou, inventor of life saving Pap test, as part of UNESCO’s tribute on the 50th anniversary of his death.

“Byzantium after Byzantium”
This fifty-three minute documentary follows the footsteps of famous Post-Byzantium families from all over the world. The producer, Dr. Erato Paris of the International Center for Hellenic Research, will give opening remarks before the screening, and will be meeting with attendees during the following reception. Presented by AHI and the Hellenic Society Prometheas.

“A Cretan Musical Night”: To Benefit the PAA Cretan Relief Fund
This reception and dance features delicious food, Mezedakia and wine on each table, and music from Giorgos Xilouris, Zaharis Spiridakis, and Nikos Xilouris. Proceeds from the event will benefit the PAA Cretan Relief Fund, a philanthropic fund designed to support soup kitchens and provide medicine to the needy in Crete. Tickets are $45 for adults and $30 for children and college students. Presented by the Creatan Association of Greater Washington, DC "Nikos Kazantzakis"

Kids Euro Festival. Greek Participation: “Short Dragon’s Code”
A combination of theatre, music, and puppets. Four reptile friends live on a river: a wise dragon with strong wings, a crocodile who can only think of food, and her two brothers. One day, the dragon finds a chest. It’s the most exciting thing that’s happened in a long time—but what’s hiding inside the chest, and how will it change the four friends? Short Dragon’s Code has an important truth to tell about working together for the good of everyone.

“George Papanicolaou: A Pioneer in Medical Research”
The Embassy of Greece, UNESCO and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of George N. Papanikolaou, one of the greatest medical scientists of the 20th century. Papanikolaou invented the famous "Pap-test," a test which detects uterine cancer in the early stages and which has saved the lives of millions of women worldwide. The tribute to George Papanicolaou, includes an exhibition, presentations and movies on his life and work.
