Foreign Minister Avramopoulos’ statement on the passing of Andrew Athens

Foreign Minister Avramopoulos made the following statement regarding the passing of Andrew Athens:

“I express my deep sadness at the passing of Andrew Athens, a leader of Ecumenical Hellenism who dedicated his whole life to serving the homeland, contributing with his standing and ethos to the promotion of our national issues.

Andrew Athens was a unifying force who fought, as President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, to empower Greeks everywhere, making a truly major contribution through his national and social work.

We bid him farewell with honor, respect and recognition of his many years of contribution. We express our deep condolences to his family.”
