Study abroad in Greece, the Campaign

Tuesday, 02 April 2013

Over 3,000 Americans students every year choose Greece as their study abroad destination. With over 60 study abroad programs and numerous cities participating, Greece is the15th most popular study abroad destination in the US!

Does your university offer study abroad programs in Greece? If yes, we want to hear from your students!

A few weeks ago we received a letter from an American student named Megan who is currently on a study abroad program in Greece. The letter was titled, "Battling Preconceptions with Reality in Greece." She shared with us her story explaining how most of her teachers and peers were very hesitant about her traveling to Greece because of all the negative stereotypes currently surrounding our country. However, Megan went on to tell us how amazing her experience in Greece has been thus far, and that what she sees is nothing like what the media portrays.

Hearing this from an American student is what inspired us. We want to hear more!

We would love for students from your study abroad in Greece programs to share their own experiences with us! What we are looking for is to see how these students have experienced their time in Greece.

They can either write a brief story or review or send us a link to a story they have already written. It can be e-mailed to us at or shared with us on our social media sites:

Facebook: facebook.com/GreeceinWashington

Twitter: twitter.com/GreeceinUSA

We will then share their reviews and stories on our social media platforms as well as feature some in our monthly embassy newsletter, “Greece in America”!

We would also like to encourage you and your students to engage with us on our social media.

Take a look at this brief video we have created for our Study Abroad in Greece campaign, and please share it with your students:

Our overarching goal through this campaign is to showcase positive aspects of life in Greece and how students benefited from spending time and studying there. Any help you can offer us would be greatly appreciated.
