The Trial of Lysistrata - Save the Date
The Shakespeare Theatre Company Bard Association and the Embassy of Greece present the Trial of Lysistrata at the Lansburgh Theatre, on Monday, November 24, 2014, at 7 p.m.
Often called the first feminist, Lysistrata rallied the women of the enemy against her own city, and organized her fellow women against their own men, all in order to stop a war that she thought unjust. Is she a traitor or heroine? Under the auspices of the Embassy of Greece, you are invited to attend a special session of the Supreme Court of Athens to hear the case of the People v. Lysistrata.
Justice Samuel Alito will preside and be accompanied by Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Counsel for Lysistrata, the Defendant, will be Lori Alvino McGill of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP and Christina Guerola Sarchio of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. Counsel for Athens will be Stewart Baker and Pantelis Michalopoulos of Steptoe & Johnson LLP. The argument and discussion will be moderated by Abbe D. Lowell of Chadbourne & Parke LLP.
The trial will be followed by a cocktail reception at Sidney Harman Hall, 610 F Street NW, with Christos P. Panagopoulos, Ambassador of Greece to the U.S.A.
Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, October 22 to STC Bard Association members; Wednesday, October 29 to STC Subscribers and Donors; and Wednesday, November 5 to the General Public. Tickets range from $20-$125, and can be purchased through the Box Office at 202.547.1122 or online at ShakespeareTheatre.org.
